Reading Notes - Bhagawat: The Krishna Avatar Part A

 Bhagawat: The Krishna Avatar

Author: an Amar Chitra Katha Publication

  • The Darling of Gokul.: Story begins with introducing Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna. He wanted to hear the story of Krishna. Following that the story goes on to talk about how it began with the marriage of the prince of Dwaraka and Devaki. A known prophecy tells that the eight born of Devaki will slay Kamsa (her cousin). Kamsa takes over and puts both the prince and his bride in prison and kills their children one by one. By way of a miracle, the 7th and 8th children are smuggled away to live in Gokul, one of them being Krishna. Krishna is an incarnation of the god Vishnu. Kamsa sends Pootana to kill the newborn babies but Krishna defeats her. Krishna does enormous feats simply as a toddler. Krishna also reveals his divine form to Yashoda but later makes her forget what she saw. The different supernatural events occurring in Gokul forced the people to move.
   Funny meme about erasing memory.

  1. Wesley, great job on noting these observations ! Krishna was indeed a clever and miraculous child. There was a story where-in he opens his mouth to show Yashoda the entire universe. I always wondered how Yashoda handled raising a god. Great job on the meme too ! I need to rewatch some of these classics.
