Week 9 Story: The Rat

 The Rat

A group of little elves was camping in the woods when a rat appears. The rat walked on two feet and could speak fluently. At first, the elves were beyond confused then the rat began to speak and told an eloquent story. He told the story of a group of four turtles who lived off pizza and would fight crime and evil. The rat said, “This was until one of the turtles had fallen in love with a human.” The elves were in awe because in this world it is inadequate to even think of falling for a human. The rat then began to unfold the rest of the story. He says that the human woman with whom one of the turtles had fallen in love had convinced him to stop eating pizza, which is the one thing he loves. He was the leader of the group and so the rest of his turtle friends followed and skipped out on eating too. They would each give their share of pineapple pepperoni and mushroom pizza to the woman. This continued and the turtles began to grow weak and this beginning to affect their crime-fighting. The elves began to be confused by the story and asked the rat why is it that they won't eat. The rat replied, “the turtles were taught at a young age to be grateful for what they have and not to take things for granted.” Their sacrifices were not made in vain as the rat told the ending of the story. The turtles then witnessed something crazy, the woman was actually the daughter of the owner of Papa Teronnis Pizza franchise and she wanted to bless them for their sacrifices. She gave each turtle a card that would allow them a lifetime of pizza at Teronnis. The woman then left the turtles and left her turtle lover a note saying “I tried to find something worth the sacrifices you and your friends made but not even a lifetime of pizza can make up for all you have done for me.”

Authors Note: This story was derived from the original story of The Mongoose from Part D of Mahabharata. The original story featured an illustrious mongoose who appeared and began to tell a story of a Brahmin. The Brahmin in the story, along with his family, had their generosity put to the test. More specifically, starved themselves to feed their guest. It was then revealed that the guest they had fed was actually a god. The god then rewarded the family for their sacrifices. My adaptation is similar but different in many ways. My story featured parts from one of my favorite childhood shows Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is where I got the inspiration for the characters. I made the overall message of the story the same but told it in my own way.

  1. Hey wesley! Great story! I thought it was a creative idea to use the teenage ninja turtles and the mongoose story. I could only wonder who the rat story teller could be, maybe the master of the turtles! Your rendition was great and I really enjoyed how light hearted and comical it was. It was too bad the two lovers did not end up together! At least a life time of pizza is something pretty cool to get!

  2. Hi Wes,
I really liked your story. I think you did a great job retelling it in your own point of view being creative and unique. I really liked how you retold it and used the characters, the ninja turtles. So cool how they each got lifetime worth of pizza for their sacrifices!! Good job on this story, I can't wait to see if you decide to do something more with this.

  3. Hey Wes,
I enjoyed reading this story like I have the other ones this semester. Your stories always are comical and light of heart. The pictures of the Teenage Mutant Turtles made a good image in my head for the whole story. There really is no better gift than a card for a lifetime of pizzas though.
