Bharata Returns
Bharata has not known that that his father Dasharatha is dead
He returned to the palace and found out about his father
He vows to bring his brother Ramahome who his banished
Dasharatha's Funeral
Bharata was endowed with words from the saint Vashishtha
The king was placed on a car and was carried by servants
They spent 10 days mourning lying on the ground (wives of the monarch, counsellors, priests, Bharata)
Rama and Bharata
Bharata seeks out Rama in the forest to persuade him to come back
They embraced each other and mourned their father
Bharata vowed to stay in the forest for 14 years so that Rama could return to Ayodhya
However Rama said neither of them can change the commands of Dasharatha
The Sandals
Since Rama could not be convinced Bharata wanted to take something to represent his absence
He took a pair of sandals which have touched Ramas feet
Bharata have Rama a pair of new sandals decked in gold
The sandals of Rama were the symbol royal authority

Viradha
Rama and Laksh. Battle a demon who abducted Sita
The demon is Viradha and he has special protection which prevents him from being harmed by sharp weapons
The demons real name if Tumburu and is actually connects to Rama through an ancient curse
They cast him into a pit because he couldn’t be killed.
Agastya
Rama receives weapons from another sage he meets with in the forest

Agastya is one of the most famous of the Indian rishis
Agastya told Rama of the Panchavatis forest where wild deer race and gorges of water flow
Tells him to go there and build a leafy home and tend to Sita
Shurpanakha and Rama
Ravana's sister Shurpanakha falls in love with Rama
She was resolved to assume another form to induce Rama to leave Sita
Though her efforts were mistaken as Rama is faithful to Sita
Lakshmana and Shurpanakha
Jealous in anger Shurpa. Tries to attack Sita

Battle with Khara
Khara tries to attack Rama again
Rama sent Sita with Lakshmana to a secret cave to be protected
Rama armed with a celestial bow awaited his enemies
Rama armed with celestial weapons scattered the demon army
The battle was won and Sita embraced her husband
Shurpanakha and Ravana
Shurpa. Lies and says she was molested by Rama to her brother Ravana
The King Ravana shows Shurpa where Ramas weakness lies (Sita)
Vows there will be a weeping for a living creatures soon
Ravana and Maricha
Ravana seeks the help of Maricha to abduct Sita
Maricha tries to warn Ravana that Rama is not one to mess with
Ravana ignores him and boasts that Rama would be easy prey
Maricha is loyal to Ravana and explained that a ruse would work best to abduct Sita
Maricha took the appearance of a golden deer hoping to be seen by Sita
The Golden Deer
Ravanas plan works
Rama goes to capture the deer for Sita

The Chase
Rama chased the deer
Maricha sprang from the deers body showing that he could imitate Ramas voice
Sita wants Lakshmana to save him
Lakshmana reassures here that no one can hurt Rama and stays with her per Ramas orders
After repenting Lakshmana decides to go after Rama
Sita says she will die without Rama
Ravana and Sita
Ravana can shapeshift and disguises himself as a sage
He seeks to take this oppurtunity to get close to Sita since she is left unguarded
Believing Ravana was a Brahmin she told him of Ramas exile
He changed his shape to the demon form and soared through the air with Sita captive

Jatayu and Ravana
Jatayu is a mighty bird who watches over exiles in the forest battles Ravana to save Sita
She saw the great vulture in a tree and cried out to him for help
Ravana ending up cutting the wings off Jatayu so that he’d fall down to his death
Ravana ended up getting Sita again and flew away
Brahma foresees Ravana's death
Sita in Lanka
Sita is the Ravana's palace
Sita has a curse that was put upon her Brahma that wont allow Ravana to rape her
Sita remember Rama in heart as weeps day and night
Rama and Jatayu
Rama returned to learn that Sita was gone
Rama began to search the forest for Sita and passed out when finding a torn piece of her clothes
Lakshmana helped comfort Rama and get his sense and they set out to find Sita
They run into the dying vulture Jatayu and he told them what has happened to Sita
Kabandha
Heading South Rama and Lakshmana run into a demon
They finger the demon and cut off his harms
The demon revealed that Ravana was in the island of Lanka after Rama fulfilled his dying wish
Shabari
Another poem that explains the origins of Shabari
Shabari is the person Rama and Lakshmana run into on their way to find Sita
She had been expecting Rama for a long time
She explains that the holy men foretold her that he would come
Her destiny was complete so she asked Rama to perform her funeral rights
