How to Tame Your Inner Critic: A Simple Habit to Rewire Your Brain & Why it's so hard to hear negative feedback
After reading the first article listed above one line that stuck out the most for me was "Instead of brooding over setbacks, you begin treating each setback as a springboard for small helpful steps, accompanied by self-congratulation." This is important to understand especially because with setbacks your normally get discoruaged but that idea is important in beginning to rewire your brain. The article discusses as you begin to rewire your brain which is your biggest critic it can become one of your greatest allies or cheerleader. It also helped branch into the next article which dives into why it is hard to recieve negative feedback. Both articles ultimately ended on the point that if you are recieving feedback reframe it so that it can lead to self-improvement. Thinking back to a time where negative feedback has led to a betterment in myself was definitley during high school sports. Knowing that my coaches and parents were not trying to talk me down but give feedback in good faith allowed me to take what I was hearing and apply it to become better as an athlete. Some of the most negative I may have heard in my lifetime is playing video games. That may be one of the only times that the feedback isn't in good faith but it is important as it is good practice in rewiring my brain.
